"Ko te tuku o Hine Te Iwaiwa" is a beautiful karakia (prayer) full of birthing affirmations.
This karakia was chanted over Hine Te Iwaiwa during her difficult birth with her son Tūhuruhuru to awhi (support) her. It was said to have made things more comfortable for her.
It is also significant to Te Arawa as it was chanted over Rangiuru while she birthed Tūtānekai on Mokoia Island.
